None of us can deny we have had fantastic weather this summer, but it will start to turn and now head into a period of bad weather.
Winter Lock Maintenance Tips

Therefore it is now time to undertake some basic lock maintenance because once the rain sets in you will not want to know. For wooden doors there is not a lot to do but one thing worth doing is to take off the handles and grease up the spindle that goes through the lock and into the handles. This will greatly assist should a fault develop and could save you money as the handles won’t need to be cut away if they are too rusty.
For either wooden doors with multipoint locks and Upvc doors, it is now time to grease all the working parts. Again, do the handle spindles but also all the locking bolts and hooks. Push grease into the holes and work the grease in. This is very important to doors that you may not use regularly during the winter such as patio doors. If you have bolts that come out of the top and the bottom of patio doors, these are very important as they are normally one part that is affected badly by weathering.
Check alignment and don’t forget that all locks whatever medium they are fitted into should work just as smoothly into the frame as well as it does when the door or window is open.
For windows, especially Upvc, check they operate smoothly too and again grease there workings because if they fail they can be harder to open and repair than the doors.
For the sake of a couple of hours over the next month could save a couple of hours stress in the rain and a nasty unwanted bill.
