Coverack Parish Council requested another task to be performed for them in the form of the Coverack Notice board lock failure.
The lock on the notice board had failed and to keep it closed they were using a G-Clamp, not ideal.
We attended to find that due to the age of the notice board and the dimensions of the current locks, the two were now no longer compatible so a replacement lock would not fit.
Notice Board Lock Replacement
It was decided that to get a modern camlock to fit, we would have to cut away some of the inner frame and to make a new plate for the outside of the door. The cutting and drilling of the inner section of the notice board was simple enough but the cutting and drilling of a 22mm diameter hole into 5mm thick steel flat bar was harder than we anticipated.
Once the metal bar was cut to length and drilled, it was then checked without attaching with the camlock to ensure the lock would work. After a minor alteration, the plate was rivetted to the outside of the door and then the lock fully installed.
All that was left was to paint the bar and it was better than the original. Sorted!
Although it is common for new locks to not be compatible with older items, it is rare that a solution cannot be found. If you have an issue then please get in touch for help and advice.
