Unfortunately it is a sad state but every year around the middle of November see`s a dramatic increase in domestic burglary`s as thief’s operate knowing many people would have purchased items for Christmas. This trend normally continues until around February. Unfortunately for a couple in St Austell, they were the first victims we have attended for some time.
They were in some ways fortunate that the door that the opportunist’s chose to break through has a good quality multipoint fitted and thus they were unable to gain entry. The unfortunate side to this is that the door and the frame was badly damaged. Although a lot of it was cosmetic the actual multipoint was damaged and required replacing.
When we arrived it was late at night, around 21.30hrs and so it was impossible to get the parts to complete the job. As the multipoint was damaged beyond repair and had completely failed, we decided for the night to remove it completely and not risk trying to get it to secure and possibly have a lock out situation and to secure the door with Sash bolts as a temporary measure.
These bolts are very good indeed and once the job is completed can be left in position as an extra security feature.
As you can see from the photo`s, the whole of the frame and the door had been gouged fairly badly and in the end the whole door and frame were replaced. This is an unfortunate situation but at least due to the fact that the mechanism was of very good quality, no private possessions were stolen and the families home violated.
