Not my favourite task.
It is not often that we take on such jobs, but recently a customer in Falmouth was left with a dilemma as a refurbished property was due to have some new doors fitted by a carpenter and then the fitting of all door furniture for a total of 6 doors.
But the customer was in a jam as the doors and door furniture had been purchased and then the carpenter that was contracted to do the work let the owners down at the last minute.
All The doors were standard internal fire doors but they were very narrow so care was needed when cutting into them to fit the basic latches so that the door did not split.
Each door had to be carefully measured and cut down to the correct height and then planed down to the width before being hung, then the latches and handles could be fitted.
Unfortunately, it was not realised until the job had started that every door frame had different dimensions, also only one was actually 100% square resulting in the job taking longer than anticipated.
Each door frame had the strike plates in place so the latches had to be aligned with the latches rather than the other way around which is the normal and correct way to fit them.
However, once they were all on, all the customer had to do was a touch-up with the paint brush and the over-all result was a thumbs-up from the customer.
