Readers of our face book page and our website blog should defiantly know the requirements of insurance companies. Unfortunately, this weekend saw a young couple in Redruth come a cropper when they were the unfortunate victims of crime.
We were called late Friday night to undertake both a repair to the door frame and then the replacement of a nightlatch lock in a wooden door.
The thief or thieves managed to use force to break into the property and because there was no mortice lock fitted the entry was achieved very easily. The young couple lost a fair amount of personal property which included electrical items including 2 televisions, 2 laptops a mobile phone and other electronic items. The thieves also got away with cash and other personal possessions.
Although no one can definitely say that the thieves would not have managed to get in if a mortice lock was fitted, it is definitely a fact that they would have had a hard task and in the process would (in this case) definitely have been heard and possibly never attempted the break-in in the first place.
Our advice is to always ensure that in an external door, have a good quality British Standard Mortice lock fitted and protect the items you have worked so hard to afford in the first place.
