Every once in a while we get a different type of job and in the last few days we have had two small mortice locks to replace. The first was in a bureau cabinet. The cabinet was locked and although these locks are usually not difficult to open, we have had the odd one to the contrary.
The second was a tall but thin jewellery cabinet which proved to be far more of an issue than the bureau. The cabinet was unlocked but a replacement lock was required as the owner had misplaced the key. Unfortunately, the lock was no longer available and the new locks available were slightly different in size. This meant some work and brain scratching in order to get the new lock to function. If the problems occurred in a standard door they would have been solved easier, but due to the type and construction of the cabinet, our options were extremely limited.
We did get the lock working with some miniature woodwork but it did take some time to complete.
The reason for both locks being replaced was the keys being lost, and although it is not difficult to make a new key if you have a key to copy, this wasn’t an option for these customers. On both occasions, we did not have the correct lock in stock but both were ordered and received the following day and then fitted.
Work on both jobs complete resulting in two happy customers!
