So it was no surprise that we recently had to think outside the box for a lady in Penzance that required a loft hatch to be secured so that tenants had no way of accessing the loft space and she was confident to store her belongings. Unfortunately, there is no real tailor made solution so the brief from the customer was simple …. IT MUST BE SECURE!
Our solution was to fit a 5 Lever Mortice Dead-Lock to the inside of the hatch and drill a keyway through to operate the lock. The deadlock had to be fitted into a piece of timber and this was screwed to the inside of the hatch, then we cut a hole for the bolt once thrown.
Due to the thickness of the hatch and the wood around the lock, we had to cut some extra-long keys but once that was done and a silver escutcheon fitted over the keyway, the job was done.
