In October 2011. Owl Locksmiths and Security was contracted by Redruth School and Technology Centre in Redruth, Cornwall to supply and installation of a security screen in their main office, The brief for the job was that it had to be secure enough but allow there pupils to be able to deposit monies and letters but not allow these items to be removed. On one side there had to be a speech portal and also allow part of the screen to open for larger parcels and boxes.
The screen was constructed by an external company in ash and fitted to the existing frame. We were not able to remove the old wooden frame as it would have caused problems with the walls so our frame was inserted into the old frame. The frame was constructed off site and delivered and fitted without the glass. Once the frame was fitted and secured the glass was fitted. The glass was both safety glass and toughened. The door that is shown in the photo`s was fitted during manufacture but unfortunately the second door which was fitted to the bottom left hand side (as seen from inside) was not specified at the time but was added later.
The finishing touch was the shelf fitted to the outside which had to be large enough to allow writing and the signing of books and registers etcetera. This had to be safe so the corners were rounded off. The task took about 2 hours to install and caulk.
