On the 3rd November 2011. Owl Locksmiths were contacted by Mr Ross Bavar who was one of the senior members of the staff on board the 71 meter, 1923 gentleman’s super yacht the Dona Amelia which was laid up in the midst of a 4 month refit at the Falmouth Based Pendennis Ship yards. The crew required the galley locks to be changed and new ones supplied and fitted before they sailed in a couple of weeks. The majority of the locks were open but in the case of about 4, they were all locked without any keys present. The locks were fitted to galley storage cupboards made of aluminium and some were fitted but others were awaiting fitting on board the vessel.
We arrived and started to get to work, we had to remove all the old locks and use them as a template for ordering the new ones. The majority of the locks were of a basic push and lock type but there were a couple that were not common at all. We managed with little difficulty to identify and purchase the locks we needed and a week later had them all fitted.
This is by no means the first luxury boat we have been asked to work on, a few months earlier we carried out some emergency entry work on the tool storage units on-board the 44 meter catamaran, the SY Hemisphere whilst under construction at Pendennis. However, on this occasion, the tool chests were brand new and had been shipped over from the USA. Unfortunately, they were locked and the suppliers had sent the keys with the chests but locked inside them. Clever eh!
Anyway, Owl Locksmiths and Security came to the rescue and managed to get them open and the locks replaced.
Owl Locksmiths and Security can cater for the majority of locks whether on a house or in these cases on board boats. If you have a vessel and require any assistance with the locks give us a call.
