Mrs Cecil required various locks around her large property upgraded and or replaced. One such task was the replacement of an old mortice latch and dead bolt horizontal lock in an internal kitchen / hallway door.
The old mortice lock was similar in size to the new replacement but we were unable to get a mortice lock of the same size with a dead bolt. Because the door was a low security internal door it was decided that the best option was to change it for the closest option in size which is what we did. Another reason for this decision was because the door as was not in the best condition.
The only major difference in size was the face plate. In this instance we had to do more filling where normally we have to chop out more timber to take the lock cases. Once the lock was fitted, we did have to move the spindle hole for the handles spindle but because there was no bolt we didn’t have to cut another hole for the key.
On the frame we had a slight adjustment but by the look of the frame this was not the first time it had been altered.
