A couple of weeks ago, we posted that a customer with a hotel in Falmouth had to close its doors, well we have once again had another customer experiencing 1st hand the nasty side of the current situation, not from the virus direct but from one of the many few selfish and small minded people that live here.
Cornwall has and will continue to be hard hit by a lack of tourists. They are what keeps this county afloat, like it or not. We all understand the logic of the calls for people to stay away but does it need to be turned in to mindless acts of vandalism? Frankly no!
This second incident occurred again prior to the Government lockdown right at the beginning of the coronavirus period. The property is a holiday let in Praa Sands on the south coast. This property was due to have paying guests stay and when the cleaners went in to check the property the day before they found that the euro cylinders in the external Upvc doors including the patio door had been vandalised with some sort of Super Glue.
In this case, the doors needed the euro cylinders to be drilled out completely. Luckily, in the case of the kitchen door it was just the cylinder that needed to be replaced but the sliding patio door also had to have replacement handles as the glue had gotten into everything.
In some cases, this can be an extremely awkward job to do. If the glue is very strong and gets into the inner workings of the mechanism which can prevent the door from being opened because the locking points going into the frame cannot be moved. This is also a very expensive form of vandalism in deed. If the inner workings will not operate then it gets to the point that the damage caused to the door, frame and the parts fitted are extensive. Luckily, this was not the case here, once the cylinder had been drilled out and the bits removed, we used our tools to operate the mechanism and the door opened.
I hope that this is the last time that we see this sort of problem.
