I believe we have now been in lockdown for about 2 weeks and everyone is starting to feel the strain no matter what you do for a living or where you live.
Here in Cornwall, a major part of the economy is tourism and calls have gone out for people to stay away.
However, even before this we saw first-hand the damage to our customers that this virus is doing.
A regular customer who owns a hotel in Falmouth requested that a lock be fitted to the front door immediately and with no notice because they were closing the hotel for the foreseeable future.
Under normal circumstances, this sort of job would have been pre-booked but due to the situation we had to fit a lock there and then.
This hotel has “never” had a need to lock the doors as it is manned 24/7 all year around. Unfortunately, because of this, the old wooden doors only had an old Horizontal Mortice Lock that was frankly, only fit for a museum. Luckily, we managed to remove the old lock from the door and fit a high security British Standard mortice dead lock euro case in its place. Some work was required to fit the lock correctly and we did have a slight issue with the door being out of alignment with the frame but this was eventually overcome.
A high security euro cylinder with a thumbturn on the inner side was fitted so as to comply with the Fire safety regulations.
The only thing that remained to be done was a little bit of wood filler where needed and a lick of paint and the job would be finished but the decoration would have to wait and that would be done by their maintenance staff at a more convenient time.
Let us hope that the doors can be unlocked again soon and to all the hotels and guest houses that have lost their income, I hope that this is all sorted out again soon so you can again get the doors open wide.
